Who\u00a0wouldn\u2019t <\/em>want to smell like a pizza? The dough, the spices, the cheese, the greasy cardboard box \u2014 all that olfactory delight might be too much for one fast-food connoisseur to handle. But now you, too, can\u00a0smell like the inside of a teenage delivery boy\u2019s Honda Civic \u2014 if you\u2019re one of the lucky 100 people who are fans of Pizza Hut and also live in Canada.<\/p>\n

According to the\u00a0Globe and Mail<\/a>, <\/em>the\u00a0project started out as a joke by Grip Limited, Pizza Hut Canada\u2019s\u00a0social media management firm, who asked the chain\u2019s\u00a0Facebook fans<\/a> in August to imagine the aroma of a fresh-delivered pie as a perfume \u2014 and to name it.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you love the smell of a box of Pizza Hut pizza being opened?\u201d the post read. \u201cWe thought so. If that smell was a perfume, what would it be called?\u201d Surprised by the enthusiastic response \u2014 fans chimed in with names like\u00a0\u201dGrease Lightning,\u201d \u201cYeast Seduction\u201d and \u201cEau de Pepperoni\u201d \u2014 Grip Limited decided to take the joke a step further by hiring an aromachologist to design a limited-edition scent.<\/p>\n

It was, to put it mildly, a challenge. \u201cWe did a couple of rounds \u2026 trying to get the right smell,\u201d Beverly D\u2019Cruz, marketing director for Pizza Hut Canada, told the\u00a0Globe and Mail<\/em>. \u201cAll of them were not fun \u2026 You\u2019d think cheese smells nice. Not so.\u201d<\/p>\n

The final scent \u2014 dubbed Pizza Hut Perfume \u2014 includes \u201ctop notes of freshly baked, hand-tossed dough,\u201d according to a\u00a0company press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the end of September, the company\u00a0announced\u00a0the perfume\u2019s existence<\/a> on Facebook, offering a free bottle to the\u00a0first 100 people to respond. In an hour the marketing team was inundated with more than 1,000 requests, four times the anticipated amount, the\u00a0Globe and Mail<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n

Pizza Hut Canada will ship the scent this week so that the winners will receive their prizes before Christmas, according to the\u00a0Globe and Mail<\/em>.\u00a0The chain also said in the release that it\u2019s possible the perfume could appear in stores in the future.<\/p>\n

Though Grip Limited\u2019s tactic may make more than a few noses wrinkle, Pizza Hut isn\u2019t the only culinary company to garner attention with odd aromas. Four years ago, Burger King offered a $4 meat-scented body spray for men,\u00a0Flame by BK<\/a>. Before that in 2006,\u00a0Stilton<\/a> created a perfume meant to mimic the scent of the pungent blue cheese.<\/p>\n

So how does the\u00a0eau de pizza <\/em>smell?\u00a0\u201dIt\u2019s delicious,\u201d Eric Vieira, Grip Limited\u2019s director of digital strategy, told the\u00a0Globe and Mail<\/em>, although he quickly acknowledged that it\u2019s not for everyone. \u00a0\u201dI hope some poor guy doesn\u2019t give it to his girlfriend,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
